TAIWAN SUGAR MUSEUM
Visit Taiwan Sugar Museum and learn about the history of Taiwan’s sugar industry, which accounted for more than 70% of Taiwan’s foreign trade during its heyday in the 1950’s.
Built in 1901 in tropical colonial style, the original plant was Taiwan’s first sugar refinery, and was designated as a significant historic site in 2000. Today, the 25-hectare museum features a variety of restored facilities to promote the culture of the sugar industry.
Learn about the sugar manufacturing process at a well-preserved old warehouse complete with a number of restored machines. Explore the retired German Diema diesel locomotives or ride the restored sugar cane trains, which played a key role in delivering cane from the fields to the factories. Test your navigation skills through the mini sugar cane maze. Enjoy beautiful artworks made out of old machinery from the plant. Of course, no visit to a sugar museum is complete without savoring a few sweet treats, including the popular red bean milk ice. It promises to be a fun and educational experience for children and adults alike.
