FORMER BRITISH CONSULATE

The Former British Consulate, approximately 15 minutes’ drive from Ambassador Hotel Kaohsiung, is a popular attraction not only for its historic interest but also for the panoramic views of Kaohsiung Harbor and Sizihwan it offers, particularly during sunset.

Located on a hilltop overlooking Sizihwan, the Former British Consulate is an impressive structure built from red bricks in Baroque style dating back to 1865. Today, the consulate is designated as a second class historic site, displaying photographs, historical documents, and artifacts. You can also tour the different sections of the consulate including a dining room, a bedroom, a studio, a basement, and an office building.

TAKAO RAILWAY MUSEUM

Take a fascinating glimpse into the history of a century-old train station at the Takao Railway Museum, only eight minutes’ drive or two metro stops from Ambassador Hotel Kaohsiung.

Formerly Kaohsiung’s first railway station during the Japanese colonial era, the Takao Railway complex was classified as an historic building and reopened in 2010 as a museum. The museum features old-style steam engines, exhibits of railroad artifacts, a platform, and train tracks.
